1. an arrangement of furniture and equipment at which a person works.
2. a class of computer similar to a desktop computer, but having any of various distinguishing features, generally characterized by one or more of the following:
- used for a specific task by multiple people at different times.
- having significantly greater memory, storage, processing power, etc., than usual for a single-user computer.
- connected to a multiuser computer in place of a terminal to provide additional specialized capabilities to a single user.
- having specialized capabilities not ordinarily found in a desktop computer, such as scientific measurement equipment, ports for audio or video production equipment, or advanced signal processing hardware.
- configured for a single user, but running an operating system capable of supporting multiple users.
