(kwa:n' tIl) n. Statistics.
1. one of a set of values that divide a distribution into equal parts, as a median, quartile, percentile, etc.
2. Also, quantile rank. one of the equal parts of a distribution between successive quantiles.
Usage. Quantiles are numbered from lowest to highest. For example, the first quartile is the lowest of the three quartiles; one fourth of the distribution is below the first quartile.
