1. a visual representation of something; image.

2. the code string that sets forth the formatting for a range in the definition of a picture format.

picture format

n.

a format that formats numeric values by combining their digits with other characters according to a defined pattern, or that formats SAS date, SAS datetime, or SAS time values by substituting their calendar and clock elements in a text string. Picture formats are created in the PICTURE statement of the FORMAT procedure.

picture option

n.

an option associated with a specific range and picture in the definition of a picture format.

picture processor

n.

the routine that applies the rules of a picture to a numeric value to produce a formatted value for a picture format.
